MBEC

Mode-based Execution Control (MBEC) is a security feature that is included in some newer Intel processors. MBE is designed to help prevent certain types of attacks that rely on manipulating the system control registers to gain unauthorized access to system resources.

MBE works by restricting the execution of certain sensitive instructions that can be used to manipulate the control registers, preventing unauthorized access to these resources. Specifically, MBE restricts the execution of certain instructions that change the processor mode, such as the SYSENTER instruction. These instructions are restricted to the highest privilege level, preventing unauthorized access to sensitive resources.

MBE is particularly useful in environments where security is a significant concern, such as enterprise and business environments. It helps to prevent attackers from gaining unauthorized access to system resources and can enhance the overall security and reliability of computer systems.
